Making the Most of Dental Implants

Wilfred October 10, 2021 3 min read

If you have missing teeth, dental implants are an excellent option for replacement. Unlike traditional dentures, these dental restorations do not require daily care and can last a lifetime with proper care. To make the most of your dental implants, it is important to keep your oral hygiene and schedule regular dental checkups. In addition, you should avoid smoking, which slows down the healing process and can affect your implants. For a complete list of recommended oral hygiene practices, visit your dentist.

The surface of the dental implant is an important factor in the stability and long-term integration of the implant. A porous surface makes it more likely to be bonded to bone, while a machined surface contributes to less bone contact. A plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite coating may be applied to titanium for extra support. There are also nonmetal dental implants, such as Zirconia. An implant’s head has an internal hex connector, which is a hexagon-shaped opening in its surface.

When choosing a dentist, you should first review the training and experience of your prospective candidate. Ask about the success rate of his or her previous procedures, and whether he or she uses advanced treatment planning technologies to ensure precise placement of dental implants. Ask for before-and-after pictures and patient reviews to get a feel for how skilled your prospective dentist is. There are many advantages to having dental implants installed. You’ll be proud of the results and will be proud to show off your new smile!

While dental implants require surgery, they don’t have the risks of traditional methods. They preserve the jaw bone, don’t decay, and function much like a natural tooth. People living longer are more likely to experience dental problems, which is why dental implants are the best treatment option. They are safe, affordable, and effective. Aside from restoring a smile, dental implants improve oral hygiene and plaque retention. And the best part about it is that they do not affect the quality of life.

After dental implants, you should practice good oral hygiene and follow post-operative instructions. Your dental professional will likely prescribe some pain medications to help you through the recovery period. Your diet should also be limited to soft foods for the next five days. If you smoke, this is especially important to avoid smoking, as it may negatively affect your dental implants. You can return to eating your normal diet after these initial days. If you smoke, you should consult your dentist to make sure you can eat your normal diet once your gums have healed.

Depending on your situation, there are different types of dental implants. Wide platform dental implants are typically larger, ranging from 4.5 to six millimeters, and are placed in the back of the mouth. Narrow body dental implants, on the other hand, are smaller and placed in the mouth. These are usually placed in patients with weak jawbones or who lack enough bone height for conventional dental implants. However, you can opt for a mini or narrow body implant to serve as a temporary support for a provisional denture until your final conventional dental implants osseointegrate.
