Making the Most of Dental Implants

Unlike traditional dentures, these dental restorations do not require daily care and can last a lifetime with proper care. To make the most of your dental implants, it is important to keep your oral hygiene and schedule regular dental checkups. The surface of the dental implant is an important factor in the stability and long-term integration of the implant. A porous surface makes it more likely to be bonded to bone, while a machined surface contributes to less bone contact. An implant’s head has an internal hex connector, which is a hexagon-shaped opening in its surface.

Ask about the success rate of his or her previous procedures, and whether he or she uses advanced treatment planning technologies to ensure precise placement of dental implants. Depending on your situation, there are different types of dental implants. Wide platform dental implants are typically larger, ranging from 4.5 to six millimeters, and are placed in the back of the mouth. Narrow body dental implants, on the other hand, are smaller and placed in the mouth. These are usually placed in patients with weak jawbones or who lack enough bone height for conventional dental implants. However, you can opt for a mini or narrow body implant to serve as a temporary support for a provisional denture until your final conventional dental implants osseointegrate.
